The reference numbers used on this website can be found in the Corpus of Indus Seals and Inscriptions. This three volume work was compiled by Asko Parpola with a team of collaborators, and published by Suomalainen Tiedeakatemia.

In order to read the Indus script, you first have to be able to see it. Professor Parpola's high resolution photographs are invaluable in this respect.

In deciphering the Indus script, I am working with multiple sources, which may or may not be accurate. When I have checked the sample text against the CISI photograph, I will add the full CISI reference including the page number. If this is missing from a published page, it means that the reference has not been checked, and the dictionary entry may be wrong.
